AMA Supercross
Supercross is an off-road motorcycle racing sport that takes place on artificially-made dirt tracks with obstacles and jumps, with most races held in professional baseball and football stadiums. Supercross grew out of the sport of Motocross and shares many similarities.
The primary differences are that Supercross is more heavily advertised and events are televised and held in major cities. Supercross was specifically tailored to TV and Supercross tracks are more difficult than and not as fast as Motocross.
There are 17 major tracks for the AMA Supercross all around the US and the AMA series runs from December until May and Supercross Class consists of 17 rounds.
The final round East-West Shootout takes place in May. Supercross class heats have 8 laps, and Supercross Lites class heats have 6 laps, with 20 riders in both classes. In both classes, the winner of the main event receives 25 points.
Supercross class has 20 laps in the main event, while Lite classes have 15. Riders also receive a $1,000 Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot award for leading the pack into the first turn.
